The foundation

How we prepare a subfloor

Every beautiful floor is built on a quiet, painstaking process most people never see. Before a single plank or pile goes down, we put the groundwork in.

  1. 01
    Survey & moisture test
    We check levels, damp readings and any movement in the existing subfloor.
  2. 02
    Strip & repair
    Old adhesives, tacks and failing boards are removed; loose areas are screwed down or patched.
  3. 03
    Damp-proof & prime
    Where needed, we apply a DPM and a primer suited to the screed or boards beneath.
  4. 04
    Latex self-level
    A flexible self-levelling compound is poured to create a flat, true plane within tight tolerances.
  5. 05
    Ply overlay (timber floors)
    On suspended floors we lay a 6mm ply overlay, screwed at close centres for a silent, rigid base.
  6. 06
    Acclimatise & lay
    Materials rest in the room before fitting — only then does the finished floor go down.
